Battle For Boulder Badge
After the devastating loss of Rascal, I went back to training out on Route 2 with Lucky. There was no way a mere Metapod was going to stand up to Gym Leader Brock. I had confidence that Rascal, Nibbles and Kiwi would help me earn the Boulder Badge, but without Rascal my confidence faltered. It took us a few days, but eventually Lucky sprouted wings and evolved into Butterfree, a significant improvement over the lovably little lump of a Pokémon he was as Metapod. I did not neglect Kiwi and Nibbles during this time, either, but their progress was a bit less important.
Once Lucky had evolved, I spent what little money I had on a couple of potions at the PokéMart. Although they were expensive, I would not let another Pokémon fall in the Pewter City Gym. I absolutely would not. My nerves were shot as I stepped into the gym for the second time. I remember I was sweating and shaking just thinking about facing Brock. I saw the Junior Trainer who had bested my poor Rascal. He gave me an approving nod, but it did little to improve my disposition. Brock stood at the far end of the gym and beckoned me forward. He had seen my fight with the Junior Trainer several days ago and was eager to face me.
I clenched my jaw tightly as I threw out my first Pokémon. Kiwi met Brock's Geodude face-to-face in the gym's arena. We wasted no time kicking up as much dust as possible to obscure Geodude's vision. Brock had Geodude spend most of its time curling up into a defensive ball, but every now and then it lashed out with a tackle that it simply couldn't land on Kiwi. When I felt it's accuracy was sufficiently incapacitated, I withdrew Kiwi and used Nibble to wear down the Geodude slowly but surely. The Geodude was powerless in the dust Kiwi's sand-attack had kicked up and against Nibbles relentless tackling.
Then Brock threw out his champion, the Onix. I tossed Kiwi back into the ring hoping to repeat our earlier performance on Geodude. Kiwi kicked up as much sand as he could, but Onix still managed to land a lucky strike on him. It hurt Kiwi enough to discourage me from keeping Kiwi on the field any longer. Nibbles was sent out while Onix merely bided his time. I knew immediately that any attacks on Onix while in this defensive state would be unleashed twofold onto its attacker. Your only choices are to crush it swiftly, which is difficult against a rock hard Pokémon like Onix, or to wait it out.
Nibbles began to stare down his opponent while it remained in its defensive posture. Slowly this would lower the Onix's defenses and leave it vulnerable to a massive strike. Eventually, Nibbles was exchanged for Lucky who covered the Onix in its string shot while it continued to wait for our attacks. Feeling safer, Kiwi returned to the battle to continue whipping up sand into Onix's face. Then as soon as Onix released its defensive posturing, Kiwi slammed it with a gust from his wings and knocked the Onix to the floor.
That was how I won my first badge in the great region of Kanto.
Brock was impressed and clasped me firmly on the back with a great slap of his hand. He knew about Rascal, of course, and was pleased at my stance on training. He liked how patient and defensive I was and as a reward not only gave me a handsome sum of PokéDollars, but a Technical Machine that would teach certain eligible Pokémon his Onix's signature technique of biding time and waiting for the counter strike. This strategy didn't really work out well for Brock that day, so I wasn't sure how I would incorporate it on to a team that I intended to take as few hits as possible. I didn't want to be rude, though, so I graciously accepted the TM #34 and the Boulder Badge.
I was now officially on the road to challenge the Indigo Plateau League. I really hadn't come to Kanto expecting to do something quite that dramatic, but I was slowly being pushed in that direction. Professor Oak had prompted me to take this journey and running into Wolf made me question what the journey really meant to me personally. The encounter with the snarky trainer in Viridian City helped me shape my personal goals and encouraged me to challenge the gyms to seek reputation and understanding in the world of Pokémon training. Now, I had my first badge pinned proudly to my backpack and I was on my way to the next adventure — with considerably more money to spend thanks to my winnings.

We are now looking for a "Community Manager and Event Coordinator" for our company. This will be a very broad role and we are looking for someone who is very driven and creative. The tasks will range from the simple, such as:

The basic requirements are as follows:
- It's crucial that you are a person who is highly able to work on your own initiative. No one will be laying out an exact schedule of things that you must do - you will need to drive your own workload. You will also need to be a creative member of the team, bringing a lot of your own ideas and suggestions to the table and then going on to implement them when possible.
- You must live in Sweden or be prepared to move here. Note that any employment starts with a six month trial period, and there is no need to move until that is over.
- You must have excellent writing skills in English.
- You need good knowledge of how social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, works.
- You should have a burning interest in video games and an understanding of the market.
In order to apply, start by doing the following assignments:
- Imagine that SOMA is about to be released. Write a short (at most 150 words) and playful cover letter that will be sent out with all of the review copies of the game.
- We really need to become much more frequent in our social media usage and communicate what we do as a company and what we are like as individuals. In 200 words or less, explain how you would try to go about increasing the number of interesting posts on our social media channels.
- An angry user has written an email complaining that our games have all become worse since Penumbra, as they no longer have proper puzzles and gameplay. Write a response.
- Being proactive and self-starting is crucial for this position. Therefore, write your own question similar to the ones above and answer it.

It's Just Two Spinners Sharing The Night
I finished up the turrets on the Night Spinners last night. I ended up going with a magenta for the Doomweavers, and putting the glow more towards the middle/base. Annoyingly, I painted on my gloss coat which resulted in a yellow/brown tinge getting on them. I'm not sure if it was something in the brush or what but I have to clean up a few parts (it's most noticeable on the white highlights). I'll get to that in a bit and get some grass tufts on there as well, then I have to figure out Falcon turrets.
Solarus 1.6 Is Out, Progress On Ocean's Heart
Some of you might remember previous coverage of Solarus, the Free Software Zelda-like ARPG engine that comes with its own complete game creation suite and a pretty impressive palette of Zelda fan games already available under its wing. As of last December, version 1.6 has been released, and while the changes under the hood are too many to number (check the full announcement and changelog here), it is worth highlighting the package now includes a more varied amount of libre tilesets, meaning developers now have available a wider choice of default non-proprietary graphics to use on their own creations. While the community is still very much focused around Zelda fan-games and their respective copyrighted graphics, this is an important first step to attract more developers and spark future libre game projects.
The Ocean's Heart tileset, now part of the Solarus package. |
One such project is Ocean's Heart, the brainchild of Solarus community member Max Mraz. The game follows a gameplay structure similar to classic Zelda games transported to a Viking age-inspired setting. It features an entirely original story and a beautiful pixelated tileset, which Max was kind enough to license under a Creative Commons license for integration with the Solarus suite. Upon completion it will become the first true libre Solarus-made ARPG in code and assets, which makes for very exciting news.
Stay tuned for further developments on this, and be sure to check the Solarus website for news on their upcoming game projects, along with complete instructions and tutorials on how to create your own game using the development tools.
Code License: GPLv3
Assets License: Mixed (most sprite packages copyrighted by Nintendo, original Solarus assets under CC-BY-SA)

Zen And Small Retail Management
The same is true with Zen meditation, with a lot of working through chaos with no idea if there will be positive results. The faith in Buddhism is the faith there will be results to the work. The tree will bear fruit, one of an infinite number of agrarian metaphors. Sometimes you have a breakthrough and learn it was indicative but not important. One of my teachers referred to that as "walking by the garden." You're not in the garden, but you're garden adjacent. Good effort. Business can be the same way. You think you have success, but then the next month the whole thing falls apart. In Zen that's pretty typical, in business it makes you want to cry, especially when you see friends and families, employees, have a simple, predictable lifestyle. Life will never be simple or predictable again.
Eventually you have a legitimate breakthrough in business as in meditation, and how are you rewarded? That's right, with more work. You struggle again, thinking you'll never make it, you've hit your peak. You know what? You might be right. There's no guarantee you'll get anywhere, and it's a combination of effort and wisdom that gets you to the next level. If you have effort and no wisdom? You'll be there a long time, languishing. The good news is pain can provide wisdom, so there's always hope. I remember several years where I wished my business would just fail already, since it couldn't seem to plateau to the next level. But eventually it did, through persistent effort and continuing to try different things until I found success (wisdom).
If you are struggling now, more than likely you're working your way to that next plateau. If you think the work will be over soon, you're mistaken. You can certainly decide not to continue the climb, but everyone, at every level, is working to get a little further up that mountain. Even multi million dollar businesses are faced with plateaus and what to do next. The higher up you climb, the more costly the mistakes too.
The "beach house in Maui" is the example a Harvard Business School report described that final ascent. You have three options as you approach the summit: you can plug away, content in your success, you can risk it all on that final ascent, or you can distract yourself because you're clearly not one to be content. You plan to build a beach house in Maui. Or build a Jeep to travel the world. Or whatever else smart people with money do to distract themselves. The beach house in Maui is true at every level, although you might decide to stop because you finally bought a house or finally have a steady income for retirement savings. It's up to you to decide when you've had enough. You could work until the day you die, and increasingly I know those folks. Much of what's written about meditation practice is getting you to break through that complacent plateau. In business, you can always decide you're at a comfortable altitude.
Age is a big factor, as you spend ten, twenty, thirty years climbing that business peak, do you really have time to fix a mistake if it all crumbles? You're probably unemployable, either because you have no marketable skills or you're incapable of working for someone else. You have a mortgage and kids and college funds and retirement plans. You can do this until you've had enough. When is enough? Age and income is the answer. Do you have time to start another climb? Does it sound appealing? Without money, you gotta do something. Maybe just visit Maui and see if there are any lots for sale. I'm sure it won't lead to anything.
Finally, the "how do I know?" question, of whether you're in the garden or garden adjacent. A teacher as guide is helpful with a meditation practice. In business it's much easier to see the results. It's not hard. It's money in the bank. If you're sitting on a pile of money and wondering where you're at, you've probably plateaued. If you don't have a big pile of money, you're probably walking by the garden.

The Unclearness HOODLUM PC Game 2019 Overview
In 2080, the mankind faced the inevitability of land flooding as a result of the global warming. But even then nobody could expect that it would happen so fast.
By the Christmas of 2097, the area of land had reduced ten times. By then the Governments completely lost the opportunity to control people with liberal methods, as a consequence, military dictatorship was introduced to oppose crime syndicates.
Those who survived got used to dividing the land into zones according to the quality of life.
The Green Zone is in the center on a hill. The place of rich people and government. An island of old life built on the bones.
The Blue Zone is steel reservations with hundreds of storeys under the Green Zone. The people who live in this Zone have to work hard to survive, but who can call it life?
The Grey Zone is an old city. It was a miracle that it was not flooded, but the miracle had an effect only on buildings and roads while the democratic foundations sank in the ocean together with the rule of law.
The Red Zone is a slum area that is behind the old city. It is inhabited with those who cannot afford living even in the old city.
The Black Zone is parts of land unsuitable for living of people.

Brave Browser voted the best privacy-focused product of 2020
Out of all the privacy-focused products and apps available on the market, Brave has been voted the best. Other winners of Product Hunt's Golden Kitty awards showed that there was a huge interest in privacy-enhancing products and apps such as chats, maps, and other collaboration tools.
An extremely productive year for Brave
Last year has been a pivotal one for the crypto industry, but few companies managed to see the kind of success Brave did. Almost every day of the year has been packed witch action, as the company managed to officially launch its browser, get its Basic Attention Token out, and onboard hundreds of thousands of verified publishers on its rewards platform.
Luckily, the effort Brave has been putting into its product hasn't gone unnoticed.
The company's revolutionary browser has been voted the best privacy-focused product of 2019, for which it received a Golden Kitty award. The awards, hosted by Product Hunt, were given to the most popular products across 23 different product categories.
Ryan Hoover, the founder of Product Hunt said:
"Our annual Golden Kitty awards celebrate all the great products that makers have launched throughout the year"
Brave's win is important for the company—with this year seeing the most user votes ever, it's a clear indicator of the browser's rapidly rising popularity.
Privacy and blockchain are the strongest forces in tech right now
If reaching 10 million monthly active users in December was Brave's crown achievement, then the Product Hunt award was the cherry on top.
The recognition Brave got from Product Hunt users shows that a market for privacy-focused apps is thriving. All of the apps and products that got a Golden Kitty award from Product Hunt users focused heavily on data protection. Everything from automatic investment apps and remote collaboration tools to smart home products emphasized their privacy.
AI and machine learning rose as another note-worthy trend, but blockchain seemed to be the most dominating force in app development. Blockchain-based messaging apps and maps were hugely popular with Product Hunt users, who seem to value innovation and security.
For those users, Brave is a perfect platform. The company's research and development team has recently debuted its privacy-preserving distributed VPN, which could potentially bring even more security to the user than its already existing Tor extension.
Brave's effort to revolutionize the advertising industry has also been recognized by some of the biggest names in publishing—major publications such as The Washington Post, The Guardian, NDTV, NPR, and Qz have all joined the platform. Some of the highest-ranking websites in the world, including Wikipedia, WikiHow, Vimeo, Internet Archive, and DuckDuckGo, are also among Brave's 390,000 verified publishers.
